Where to Walk, When in Rome
You can easily get lost in the streets of Rome. The cobblestone alleyways, the pinks, yellows and oranges of the buildings, the way the light hits at certain times of the day. With all of my on foot exploring of Rome, I wanted to share one of my favorite walks!
I’m from LA…born and raised.
One thing we don’t do in LA…is walk.
We go for runs, hike, have a billion and one gyms, boutique fitness and yoga studios to choose from, and are super active…
But we drive everywhere!
You can’t live in Los Angeles without a car.
One of my favorite things about Rome is walking.
I love to just get lost meandering through the cobblestone streets for hours.
I’ve gotten to the end of the day there and looked at my iPhone app and realized I walked 12 miles! Without even thinking about it.
I do believe that people in Europe stay in amazing shape naturally because of how much they walk.
With all of my on foot exploring of Rome, I wanted to share one of my favorite walks!
It takes you through so many gorgeous areas, and it’s lovely to just take your time.
You can easily spend half a day!
Start in the morning and stop for a cappuccino. Then get a delicious pasta lunch at a cafe that catches your eye. And later an espresso and a gelato.
When in Rome... :)
So without further ado...
Here is my beloved walk through Rome ~
- Start in Piazza Navona
- Walk down the charming Via dei Coronari until you get to the end. Turn right and you will see the river.
- Walk to the river and cross the bridge Ponte Sant’Angelo (stop for some photos since it’s gorgeous!)
- Stroll around the Castel Sant’Angelo and through the beautiful grounds.
- Then make your way up the river, perhaps stopping at one of my most loved spots, Bibliobar, for a cappuccino and cornetto (Italian croissant!)
- Once you reach Ponte Cavour (another bridge) cross back to the other side of the river. Go left on Via di Ripetta. Walk all the way up until you reach the lovely Piazza Del Popolo.
- From there go up into the Borghese Gardens. You will see the stairs on the other side of the Piazza. You can also wind your way up the road instead of using the stairs.
- Linger in the park as long as you like! It’s another incredible picture spot, and a super relaxing place to take a break under the trees.
- When you’re ready to move on, keep walking further up the park until you reach the top of the Spanish Steps! The views are also amazing here!
- When you head down the steps you will see all the high end store like Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and so many more! If this is your thing, take a shopping break! If it’s not, then make your way down whichever street calls to you and find a little spot for lunch, if it’s that time!
Afterwards, I like to continue to wander over to the Trevi Fountain, then the Pantheon, and back to Piazza Navona. You can pause for an espresso at Caffè Sant’Eustachio, and a gelato at Gunther Gelato Italiano!
Then meander back to Piazza Navona or continue following what roads inspire you!

I can’t say enough about the magical beauty of Roma… la città eterna 💫
Let me know if you take this walk, or what you love to explore when in Rome!
Con tanto amore,
