My Top Five Favorite Spots to Swim & Sun in the Amalfi Coast

Italy is magic. The beauty everywhere you look, the language, the food, the long, luxurious meals, il dolce far niente. Here are my favorite spots to swim and sun in Positano and Capri.

Italy in itself is magic…

The beauty everywhere you look, the language, the food, the long, luxurious meals, il dolce far niente.

It is truly la dolce vita!

Take that up a notch when you visit the Amalfi Coast.

The air smells like flowers, the views are mesmerizing, and the turquoise water just calls you in over and over…

My happy place is laying on the rocks at La Fontelina Beach Club in Capri, wet skin glistening in the sun from a recent swim, sipping on white wine with peaches.

There are many stunning spots, so in order to narrow it down, here are my top five that I always go back to.

My favorite spots to swim and sun in Positano and Capri are ~

La Fontelina Beach Club in Capri ~ This place is beyond picturesque. It's blue and white umbrellas, perched on the rocks, with a perfect place for swimming while staring at "i faraglioni" the giant rocks jetting out of the sea. You need to make a reservation in the summer since it gets busy! There is a rental fee for the sun beds, towels and umbrellas, but it is so worth it.

The restaurant is delicious with the most amazing salad bar. You can also order drinks and snacks right to your lounge. Their Italian version of sangria is my go-to! Crisp white wine full of summer ripe Italian peaches! You can get there by taking Via Tragara, which is a beautiful island path from the center of Capri town, or a small boat taxi from Marina Grande. I personally love the walk down...just be prepared to walk back up since there are a number of stairs. The incredible view on the path is worth the effort!

Marina Piccola ~ This is a lovely small cove that gets very crowded in the summer...with tourists and locals alike! I believe it's part of it's charm...and with the people it becomes so colorful with the various umbrellas, towels and swimwear! There are a few great restaurants to choose from for lunch! It's a pebbly beach so have some sandals to slide on to walk around. It's a great place for a swim, and this is a free beach to enjoy!

Arienzo Beach Club Positano ~ Italian beach clubs are all about the umbrellas! Arienzo is known by their bright, cheery orange and white umbrellas, which is a breathtaking contrast to the deep blue sea! From the main beach of Positano, you take a small boat taxi to get to this private beach. You can sip on an Aperol Spritz and have some delicious pasta right from your chair, or at their wonderful restaurant! It's a perfect way to spend a day...or several days ;)

Da Luigi ai Faraglioni in Capri ~ Da Luigi is another beach club on the island of Capri. It's actually right next door to La Fontelina! It's the first one you get to at the end of the path on Via Tragara. I love this place because you literally swim at the edge of the Faraglioni...which are mesmerizing! There is a fee to rent the lounges and towels, but it's a little less pricey than La Fontelina. Of course, the food and wine is plentiful here, too, to fill you up after all your sunning and swimming!

Private Boat for the day! ~ Lastly, I wanted to include a splurge option! If you can, do yourself a favor, and rent a private chartered boat for the day. I've done this twice (with friends - so gather some to share the cost, and the experience) and both times I left saying it was literally the best day of my life! You spend the entire day cruising past the Amalfi coast, around the Faraglioni rocks, stopping to jump in the crystal clear water for swims, the many gorgeous grottos, laying in the sunshine, stopping for lunch, drinking wine, and having the most blissful experience you could imagine. Both times I went with the boat company Lucibello Positano. They are amazing and I highly recommend them for a perfect day!

Just writing this article is making me homesick for my beloved Italian summers!
