Let Yoga Be What You Need
It takes a consistent yoga practice to finally reach that place of knowing yourself so well that you know exactly when and how much to push, but also how much to release.

I’ve been teaching yoga for almost 13 years.
Within this time, I’ve noticed my personal practice change and evolve. It often reflects what is happening in my life.
Rather than forcing the practice or the poses, doing what I think I “should” do, I’ve allowed myself the freedom to let the yoga flow from the place I need it most.
Sometimes I need yoga to be my workout. A faster, active, strength-based practice incorporating more ab, glute, and upper body, where I’m able to release stored up energy and truly quiet my mind by the physical effort I’m putting in. To get my heart rate up and feel my muscles burning. To let go of stress through my sweat.
Other days I just want to flow more slowly, stretch and move with my breath. Lingering longer in poses that feel good and letting my body melt into each movement, often closing my eyes and being so fully present.
I’ve taught thousands of classes over the years. From this experience, I can see the students who listen to their body and honor what they need that day, and then the ones who are forcing. They may not even know the difference. It takes time to tap into your intuition to understand what your body is asking for.
And often, it’s even harder to respect it.
I used to push myself in hard workouts when I knew I needed to ease off. I don’t do this anymore.
There’s a difference between challenge and force.
Of getting uncomfortable to where you create change in the body and the mind, but not to the point where you’re not honoring yourself and losing touch.
Being fully present and developing mindfulness of what your body, mind and heart are asking for requires time.
It takes a consistent practice to finally reach that place of knowing yourself so well that you know exactly when and how much to push, but also how much to release.
It’s a balance.
Yoga is such an incredible way to get to know yourself better and deepen your intuition.
This creates a ripple effect into all areas of your life.
It affects your self-nourishment…what you eat, drink, choices you make for your mental and emotional well-being. Who you surround yourself with. What you read and watch.
Literally, all parts of your life are effected by yoga.
This is the magic of the practice.
It’s what I strive to share with my students, in every class I teach.
