How to Incorporate More Yoga into Your Life
Yoga is more than just the physical practice. It’s also about becoming more centered, grounded, clear in your state of mind, balanced emotionally, releasing stress, and being more true to you in every aspect of your life.
How can you incorporate more yoga into your life…off of your mat?
Yoga is more than just the physical practice.
It’s also about becoming more centered, grounded, clear in your state of mind, balanced emotionally, releasing stress, and being more true to you in every aspect of your life.
While I was recently back in Rome, I taught at the beautiful Zem Yoga Studio Roma. I've been teaching in this lovely space each time I visit since 2017!
Practicing and teaching yoga internationally, to students from all over the world, is an incredible opportunity to see how much yoga makes a difference in lives universally.
This centuries old discipline cultivates not just physical benefits, but a greater state of mindfulness, towards yourself and others.
Yoga is not just something you do for an hour or 90 minutes each day. Instead, it becomes part of you, and everything you do.
Here are some ways to incorporate more yoga into your life~
1. Take time to be still and be quiet every day. Even if just for 5 minutes. It doesn't have to be a formal meditation. Just allow yourself a few minutes away from your phone or external distractions.
2. Create a morning and evening routine of self-care. This starts your day in a positive way, and sets you up for a more restful night of sleep. Yoga teaches us to take great care of ourselves. By being more loving, gentle and nourishing to our own bodies, minds and hearts, the more we will have to give to others.
3. Be kind to yourself. Notice when negative or frustrating thoughts enter your mind, and do your best to shift your perspective. Know that everything is temporary and constantly changing. Ups and downs are normal parts of life.
4. Stay for Savasana and make it the most important part of your physical asana practice. Many people skip savasana (corpse pose)… ready to move on to the busy-ness of their lives. This is the most sacred part of the practice where you literally soak up what you just did and realign. This is where the benefits flow in to your body, mind and soul.
5. Be kind always and all-ways. We never know what anyone is going through. If someone upsets you or speaks poorly to you, take a moment to find patience and simply be kind rather than reacting out of emotion. By developing patience through your practice, it's easier to pause instead of react.
Yoga is so special because it involves every aspect of life.
It creates benefits so far beyond just the physical. Yes, you will gain muscle strength, flexibility, range of motion, twist, rinse and cleanse.
But it will also help you become more patient, mentally focused, emotionally vulnerable with yourself and others, compassionate, empathic, and gain a greater peace of mind, no matter what is going on in the world around you.
This is the magic of yoga.
It will literally change and improve your life in more ways than you realize when you take it off your mat and see it as part of everything you do each day.
Con tanto amore,
